The “FIR1-Eco” is appx 40″ wide by 44″ deep and 6′ tall. In the “Eco”, we use a digital Timer for the outside control plus an interior 5”-diameter sauna thermometer. A ceiling air vent with carbon filtration is built-in that allow you to modulate the temperature if it feels too hot.
It is very comfortable and includes a free-standing backrest.
It uses 4 FIR heaters – one at your back; one in front of each leg – corner-mounted to each side of the door; one under the seat for the backs of your legs. An optional NIR heat lamp can be recessed into the ceiling above the upper legs and to affect the chest, while avoiding direct exposure of the eyes.
“NIR” is effective from farther distances than FIR so it has therapeutic value from the ceiling whereas FIR wouldn’t. FIR is better for detox – a more effective sweat prod, but adding some NIR increases the levels of infrared energy in the sauna and the total body area that receives the energy. This set-up is more comfortable and more effective than all-NIR saunas, and it avoids any potential eye hazards associated with mis-positioned NIR bulbs (directly in front of you).
Many companies promote their saunas as if they are built like ours – “non-toxic”, “medical grade”, “hypoallergenic”. They typically aren’t built like ours at all but their clever marketing can fool folks into thinking they are! By using non-aromatic wood, it may seem as if their saunas are also made in a safest manner. The wood selection is only a first step in creating safer saunas, but it can be used as a marketing tool to create the illusion of greater safety.
Most FIR sauna construction is adhesive-based as it’s faster to secure wood to a glue-coated frame with nail guns than by inserting screws, and it allows for the use of thin paneling. Very thin, cheaper wood is typically glued-on like a veneer. They are designed for mass production, economy, and appearance – not for the “purity” required of a real medical-quality sauna.
FIR sellers often downplay the use of glue by claiming to use small amounts of “safe glue”. In every FIR sauna we’ve seen, thick gobs of adhesives secured all of the visible boards – walls, bench, floor, and ceiling to the frames.
Some USA-made carpenter’s glues are labeled “non-toxic” but they are not chemical-free. Most are water-emulsified plastic with a long list of allowed chemical additives (biocides, thinners, preservatives, coloring agents, etc.). Most FIR saunas sold in America today are Chinese or Vietnamese. What is in these glues? While detoxifying, the last thing you want to do is sweat out one toxin and inhale the fumes of another!
Heavenly Heat saunas are built in Arizona and shipped crated. Components are sized smaller than is typical (wall widths are limited to 32” max) to assure the ability to carry each part through any door or stairway. Assembly is simple – mostly by closing stainless steel latches, and they may be disassembled and relocated.
Each sauna is built with counter-sunk non-corrosive steel screws rather than glue, and with much thicker paneling to assure that each sauna is a clean-air environment that is essential for detox. This also yields strong, highly durable saunas with a lifetime warranty on construction, the electrical, and the heaters.
